Sisters design ‘Mommy Maid’; Answered prayer leads to invention idea, woman says

Jacqueline W. and her sister spent hours brainstorming, but only when she offered a prayer did she get an idea for a new product to market.
“Believe it or not, God gave it to me,” Jacqueline said. “I prayed about it and God gave me my answer in a dream. I woke up at 4:30 in the morning telling my husband, ‘I got my invention; I got my invention,” but he was knocked out and couldn’t even hear me.”
For the past year, Jacqueline and her sister, Valerie B., have worked to turn the dream into a reality. Together, along with Invent-Tech, they are trying to find a manufacturer to market their product, the “Mommy Maid.”
“Once we get a manufacturer, everybody will be carrying this product,” Jacqueline said. “I know that this product is going to blow up and mothers are going to love it.”
Discussions about creating a new product began after Valerie saw an invention show on television almost a year ago, she said.
“I watched this show where people invented things,” Valerie said. “I mentioned it to my sister and thought there are so many untapped ideas out there, I knew we could be creative. We then decided to gear it toward children because there is a really big market there.”
The sisters’ product, the Mommy Maid, is three products in one. It aims at helping mothers out, particularly at night when they don’t want to leave the baby alone in a room.
Because the product has not been produced, details cannot be given, Jacqueline said. She did, however, call it an “organizational tool” for mothers that will come in different colors and sizes to match any décor in the house.
“This will allow mothers to stay in the bedroom and not leave their baby unattended,” Jacqueline said. “There is always a need for new baby products and this product will help mothers tremendously all over the world.”
While Jacqueline dreamed up the idea, Valerie came up with the product’s name.
“Since this is geared toward helping new moms, I though along the lines of maid or nanny.” Valerie said. “I ended up with maid to use the double M . . . it sounded more catchy.”
With the help of their brother’s artistic skills, Jacqueline and Valerie were able to draw up the product and submit it to Invent-Tech, a company that helps inventors nationwide find manufacturers for their products and get them on the market, said Jorge Puertas, spokesperson for Invent-Tech.
“My brother draws pretty good so we asked him to do it,” Jacqueline said. “It turned out well. The hard part now is that we can’t tell anybody. Just me, my sister, brother and parents know. My husband doesn’t even know what we are doing.”
“The hard part is the waiting period to see if it will take off,” Valerie said. “The anticipation of what it could be. You know you have a good idea and what you have could be really beneficial, but you just have to be patient.”
Jacqueline said if the product takes off, it is something that can also be used in nursing homes, daycares and in other situations where people cannot be left unattended.
Although they are still awaiting completion of the project, Jacqueline said her husband is already thinking up a new invention and Valerie said she would not mind working with her sister again to create another product.
“If this works for us I’m sure we wouldn’t mind putting our creative juices together and coming up with something else,” Valerie said. “There are always things that can be invented or ways to even improve on what already exists.”
