Pet Owner Becomes Inventor

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. Nicole A. can testify to that.
Last year, when one of Nicole’s large dogs was sick, she had to struggle to get the heavy pet to the vet. With her back aching all the next day, she realized the pain could be avoided.

“I thought ‘there has to be an easier way to do this,” Nicole said. “I got out a sketch pad and started sketching.” When she was done, the Pet Trolley was born.

“I just did what I had to do as a pet owner”, she said. “I make more frequent (vet) visits with additional pets.” She currently owns eleven dogs.
Nicole said she enhanced an already existing product to eliminate the physical strain involved in transporting a pet. The invention was designed to make travel easier on both the owner and the animal.

She said she had looked in stores for something like the Pet Trolley before her dog fell ill, but hadn’t found anything comparable.
“The idea was there – I just hadn’t done anything with it until there was a personal need.” She said.
A school counselor by trade, Nicole never invented anything before the Pet Trolley. She said once she saw the product on paper, she realized it could benefit pet lovers across the globe.
“I wanted to help the world – make it a better place,” she said.

Nicole is still in the process of licensing her creation with Invention Technologies, Inc., of Coral Gables, Fla., so she’s unable to reveal any of the structural or functional aspects of the invention.
She can, however, disclose her plans for the product. Nicole said she wants the product manufactured in a variety of sizes for all types of pets. She hopes to perfect the design once Invention Technologies has found a manufacturer and Nicole can work with a prototype.

“I’m very involved in the design development and structural and functional aspects and changes.” She said. “I’ve toyed with the color, style, and the way it works.”

Nicole hopes her invention will be sold in all stores that carry pet supplies.
“I think it will be very eye catching.” She said.

The Pet Trolley is being displayed at trade shows throughout the state and internationally. Anderson said the product might be in stores as soon as the next few months.
